Die Anwesenheit eines Furanrings in einem Molekül steigert die Reaktivität von Aldehyd und Alkoholoxidationen, indem der Ring die Adsorptionsstärke erhöht. Die Aktivität von Alkoholen und Aldehyden bleibt jedoch durch einen Furanring unbeeinflusst.
